Weekend Recap 4/26/25

The action we had streaming on DAZN:

Eubank Jr vs Benn Lives Up to the Hype

This fight had the most ridiculous build up for two guys that are not world championship caliber. The fight was built on a family rivalry going back to when their dad's fought in the 90's. Their father's were absolute, world class, world championship fighters. The kids are not as good as their dads but bad blood sells.

This fight had WWE storylines and Rocky level fight sequences. Chris Eubank Jr (35-3), the older, bigger, more experienced fighter who missed the 160 lb weight by half a pound. The morning of the fight he had to make the 170 lb rehydration clause and looked like a man drained before the fight even started. Conor Benn (23-1), the younger, smaller man who was coming up from 147 lbs to 160 lbs in a massive jump. Oh yea and there's the issue over his positive PED drug test drama that delayed this fight by almost 3 years.

Yarde and Arthur Snooze Fest

Anthony Yarde (26-3) beats Lyndon Arthur (24-2) in one of the most unnecessary trilogies of recent memory. I won't waste time giving this fight more publicity since it nearly killed all momentum the previous cards had built up.

McKenna Blanks Smith

I have to give to the Brits and their broadcast team. They ride or die with their fighters no matter what. Even when they slip into delusions of British grandeur. Everyone was picking Liam "Beefy" Smith (33-5-1) to beat the young Irishman, Aaron McKenna (20-0).

Riley Looks Sharp Clarke

Viddal Riley (13-0) picked up a thoroughly impressive win over Chaevon Clarke (10-2). Apparently Riley is an influencer as well and his name was in the mix to fight Jake Paul a few years ago. Glad he stayed the traditional boxing route. Not sure he has a high ceiling but this was a great step in the right direction.

Billam-Smith Takes Out Glanton

Chris Billam-Smith (21-2) won an impressive Unanimous Decision over Brandon Glanton (20-3) to open the card. Questions were answered if Billam-Smith took too much of a beating in his loss to Zurdo Ramirez were answered. Glanton looks like a fun, gatekeeper fighter trying break into the upper echelon of the Cruiserweight division.
