The Big, Beautiful Boxing Weekend Fight Previews 6/7/25

Written by Greg on 6/6/25

We had the street food diarrhea fight weekend that was sold to us as being historic in the beginning of May. Now we have this quiet, sneaky weekend no one is talking about that I think will actually end up being a Big, Beautiful Boxing weekend!

Saturday 6/7/25 on DAZN at some totally made up place; Portman Road stadium in Ipswich:

Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni

5:00 PM ET/4:00 PM CT

Who’s Fighting:

Fabio Wardley (18-0-1) is someone who should be a player in the next wave of heavyweight fighters. In his last outing he LITERALLY dented Frazier Clarke’s skull with a 1st round KO. Wardley obviously brings big power.

Justis Huni (12-0) is even younger than Wardley and he has a better amateur background. Huni is a late replacement which could either work to his advantage or see him get starched.

Why You Should Watch:

This is a very good matchup for two young heavyweights. We should learn a lot about both fighters and see if either of them will be in that legit contender status once the current heavyweight greats are put in the retirement home.

Stateside we are in Norfolk, VA on ESPN+ for some great fights

Keyshawn Davis vs Edwin De Los Santos

11:00 PM ET/10:00 PM CT

Who’s Fighting:

Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (13-0) was anything but professional when he missed weight for the fight by over 4 lbs. That means he will be stripped of his belt no matter the result of the fight (if it even goes forward). It's a damn shame because Keyshawn is truly one of the elite young talents in the sport right now. Even if he puts in a dazzling performance, it will be tainted by missing weight.

Edwin De Los Santos (16-2) on the other hand looked skeletal as he actually made weight. He looked terrible in the post weigh in interviews. He has got a bad rap lately for what happened in his Shakur Stevenson loss. The fight turned into a no action, no fun, snoozefest. To be fair that is not the type of fighter De Los Santos is. He likes to use his power and hurt guys. To also be fair if you can’t hit someone or cut off the ring then that’s also your fault.

Why You Should Watch:

Keyshawn has all the talent in the world. He should be in the top half of the Pound for Pound ranks in the next few years. But missing weight by over 4 lbs is a big problem. That is an indication that he never even attempted to make weight in the first place. He says it’s because he outgrew the weight class but he also continually calls out Tank Davis and just yesterday Abdullah Mason… who are all 135 lbs. Maybe he is telling the truth. Maybe he blew past the weight to ensure he could handle De Los Santos’ power. That’s why we will be watching Saturday night.

Abdullah Mason vs Jeremia Nakathila

10:00 PM ET/9:00 PM CT

Who’s Fighting:

Abdullah Mason (18-0) is another incredibly young fighter who has the tools to be a superstar. A few fights ago he had a wake up call, getting knocked down twice and then coming back to win via KO. He is a super fun fighter to watch.

I know next to nothing about Jeremia Nakathila (24-6) so I won’t pretend to. This is a step up in class for Abdullah and hopefully Nakathila can provide some great experience.

Why You Should Watch:

You are watching this for Abdullah Mason. Full stop. You want to see the young phenom.

Sunday 6/8/25 on ESPN+ from the Land of the Rising Sun Tokyo, Japan:

Junto Nakatani vs Ryosuke Nishida

5:30 AM ET/4:30 AM CT

Who’s Fighting:

Junto Nakatani (30-0) might be the best fighter that no one has ever heard of. He is another in the line of Japanese warriors. He appears to be cut from the same cloth as an Inoue. He wants to fight everyone.

His opponent Ryosuke Nishida (10-0), who is the IBF champion, doesn’t appear to be a power puncher. In theory this should be a fight tailor made for Nakatani.

Why You Should Watch:

We have been teased with a Naoya Inoue vs Junto Nakatani super, mega, epic fight either at the end of this year or the first half of 2026. The more belts Junto collects now makes that show down against Inoue a bigger fight for who the baddest man in Japan is.

Sunday 6/8/25 on DAZN from down under to Queensland, Australia:

Jai Opetaia vs Claudio Squeo

8:00 AM ET/7:00 AM CT

Who’s Fighting:

He comes from the land down under! Yes, I am talking about the superstar of the 200 lb, Cruiserweight division, Jai Opetaia (27-0). Cruiserweights are the hardcore boxing fans' addiction. You get close to the size of heavyweights but the boxing skills of the smaller weight classes. A lot of fans and pundits believe that Opetaia will make the move up to heavyweight in a year or two and be the one to take down the living legend Oleksandr Usyk.

Jai’s opponent appears to be the definition of a stay busy fight. It would appear none of the other cruiserweights have an interest in putting their shrimp on the barbie. From what I can find it appears Claudio Squeo (17-0) goes by the nickname The Red Bull. It might be a good idea to follow the Red Bull commercials and grow some wings to get himself out of the ring before getting KO’ed.

Why You Should Watch:

Jai Opetaia is a truly great fighter. He is a victim of his own success and cruiserweight being in a transitional phase without a lot of great names. We want to see how his sharp boxing skills may translate if he moves up to take on some of the big behemoth boys at the heavyweight division.
