Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois
6:00 PM ET/5:00 PM CT
Who’s Fighting:
Fabio Wardley (20-0-1) is what the Brits call a “White Collar Boxer”. Instead of putting together a decorated amateur boxing career, Wardley worked a regular 9-5 day job. In fact, Fabio Wardley has never fought a single amateur fight. That is wild to think about given that he now hold the WBO Championship belt. Wardley is still refining the boxing skill side of his arsenal but what he has is fight ending power. I am not invoking this name as a comparison but because its the only comp I can really give you. His power is the late 40 year old George Foreman. It is effortless. He doesn’t need to throw haymakers like Deontay Wilder. It comes from what appears to be a normal punch but scrambles his opponent's brain (he literally dented Frazer Clarke’s skull in their rematch).
Daniel Dubois (22-3) was once considered the future of the heavyweight division and a favorite among UK boxing fans, though his career has had its ups and downs. He began his professional career as a knockout specialist before his first loss in 2020 to Joe Joyce, a fight that had many questioning his toughness. Perhaps the moment that stands out the most for Dubois was when he dropped Blurred Vision Boxing’s #1 P4P fighter, Oleksandr Usyk, with a devastating body blow that may have ended Usyk’s reign as champion…if it wasn’t determined to be a low blow by the referee. Dubois would go on to lose to Usyk, but has bounced back and become a more patient and mature heavyweight, now mixing the same elite power with a better jab and boxing IQ.
Why You Should Watch:
Greg: Fabio Wardley has risen the ranks to capture the heavyweight title extremely fast. His power carries for 12 rounds. But he is vulnerable. A good boxer can give him fits round after round. Daniel Dubois is a former heavyweight champ who has 2 of his 3 losses to an all-timer in Oleksandr Usyk. This will either be a slugfest early or it could be Dubois outboxing Wardley and attempting to avoid getting erased by a big Wardley punch late. Both fighters are deeply flawed with big power. The type of matchups that can produce incredible fights.
Tony: This is a classic heavyweight bout and the type of fight that demonstrates exactly why the heavyweight division is so popular - any single punch could end the fight. Dubois is likely the most technical fighter Wardley has faced, and both men bring a level of danger and vulnerability in the ring. This one should have some outstanding fireworks, where neither fighter can be counted out until the final bell, or even more likely, until the ref declares a knockout.
David Morrell Jr vs Zak Chelli
3:10 PM ET/2:10 PM CT
Who’s Fighting:
David Morrell Jr (12-1) is one of our favorite fighters at Blurred Vision Boxing. Cuban who relocated to Minneapolis, MN. Has fought many times at the Armory and always represents raising awareness for Autism research. What is not to like? Oh and he is one hell of a fighter. He is a highly skilled southpaw who not only can box circles around you but he can also pop. In his 12th professional fight he took on “The Mexican Monster” David Benavidez. He lost the fight but he may have given Benavidez one of his toughest fights. In fact Morrell scored a knock down on Benavidez.
Zak Chelli (16-3-1) is a British Boxer. I am not going to lie to you, that is all I know. Morrell was supposed to fight Callum Smith in the UK a few weeks ago but Smith tore his biceps and had to pull out. This fight came about because Morrell had done a full training camp in the UK and didn’t want to leave empty handed. Hopefully Chelli is game and can make this a respectable fight.
Why You Should Watch:
You are watching this for David Morrell. Full stop. This is more of a stay busy fight for him but this is like going to a St Paul Saints game and seeing Byron Buxton getting a game in under his belt. Morrell should be back fighting for world titles very soon. Start following him now and you’ll thank me later.
