Caleb Plant, Amazon Prime Fight Previews 5/31/25
No Pay-Per-View for this fight!! That right there should get you to tune in. Oh and it's on a service that everyone you know has? Did you say The Bezos Buff Boy is doing boxing on Amazon Prime now? Yep, that’s what I am saying.
Saturday 5/31/25 in Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas on regular Amazon Prime (NO PPV!):
Caleb Plant vs Armando Resendiz
11:00 PM ET/10:00 PM CT
Who’s Fighting:
Caleb ‘Sweet Hands” Plant (23-2) is a boxing throwback. He truly wants all the smoke from anyone in or around his 168 lbs weight class. His only two losses actually elevated him into the must watch territory. His first loss came to the face of boxing Canelo Alvarez when Canelo beat four unbeaten champions, Plant being one of them. This was the absolute peak power of Canelo’s superstardom. His second loss came soon after when he was the only man in the 168 lbs division to give The Mexican Monster, David Benavidez a fight. This was an absolute brawl. Plant showed incredible heart as Benavidez showed off why he was world class.
Plant has been known more as a boxer who moves and will stick you with a combo as he slips out of your range. In his last fight he got hurt, legs were shaky, and we saw another incredible, tough as nails fight as Plant stood, fought on the inside and showed off his punching power.
I don’t know much about Armando Resendiz (15-2) but Plant doesn’t like to take easy fights. That tells me Resendiz will be coming in and ready to give it his all.
Why You Should Watch:
Two reasons to watch this fight.
Caleb Plant is universally loved by boxers and boxing fans as someone who does what he says and says what he does. He is an exciting, action oriented, fun fighter. He will not put on a snoozer for a fight, especially as the main event.
Way back in 2023, backstage of the Bud Crawford - Errol Spence Jr mega fight, Caleb Plant had a run in with Jermall Charlo, who happens to be the co-main event. Apparently Charlo, who in the video appears to be buzzed up or something, is pulling on Plant’s beard. Not taking any shit, Plant quickly slapped Charlo around, leaving him looking sad and confused after. PBC seems to be angling for a Caleb Plant vs Jermall Charlo fight next.
I’ll sneak a third in here. If you have Amazon Prime, like the entire world does, this fight card costs you nothing more! Just tune in!
Jermall Charlo vs Thomas LaManna
10:00 PM ET/9:00 PM CT
Who’s Fighting:
Jermall Charlo (33-0) was the king of the middleweight division… 5 years ago. The Charlo story is remarkable. Jermall Charlo and his twin Jermell Charlo (35-2-1), both budding superstars in boxing. American, great trash talkers, scaring opponents and supremely talented in their 20s. For Jermall he has fought 3 times in the last 5 years. He has had a string of legal problems, mental health, personal life issues that have derailed his career. He is still a wild card at 35 years old. He could come out and look like the hungry lion he used to be. Or more likely he could look long in the tooth.
His opponent Thomas LaManna (39-5-1) is a likeable guy who has always been a tier below the top level. No doubt PBC picked him as an easy tune up fight for Charlo to get ready for the potential big showdown against Caleb Plant. However, this is it for LaManna. This is his big fight. His time to shock the world. Not sure he can do it if 60% of Charlo shows up. Boxing is a wild sport that likes to turn things on their head right when you think you have it all figured out.
Why You Should Watch:
You are tuning in to this, again FREE fight, to see what version of Charlo shows up. If he can turn back the clock to 2020, you will see one of boxing's best craftsmen at work. If not you may see a Rocky Balboa type upset if LaManna can upset the apple cart.
Curmel Moton vs Renny Viamonte
Undercard starts at 8:00 PM ET/7:00 PM CT
Who’s Fighting:
I would recommend starting to watch Curmel Moton (7-0) now. If you have even the slightest bit of hipster in you, you may be able to say “Yea, well I watched him before he was great”. Moton is only 18 years old and is the current protege to Floyd “Money” Mayweather. The last fighter Floyd took under his wing like this was the current face of American boxing Gervanta “Tank” Davis.
As for his opponent Renny Viamonte (4-1-1), I know absolutely nothing about him except that his first name is close but not the same as Remmy from one of my favorite Pixar movies, Ratatouille.
Why You Should Watch:
You know you have that itch. You want to be able to tell people you saw a future great when he was 18 years old on a FREE Amazon Prime card. You are watching to compare the eye test of how Moton looks to what I have just told you.
